The lion is the most courageous of animals. When the hyena pack comes, though it means certain death, the lioness will stand and defend her cubs and fight to the end. Lions are also among the smartest and most vigilant of animals. With each step she cautiously tests the grass before her.

`

The sheep is the most cowardly of animals. When the hyena pack comes she will run for her life and leave her lambs behind. Sheep are also the dumbest and most gullible of animals. She has no mind of her own and will follow the sheep in front of her over the cliff.

`

The three stars stand for the three attributes his father built into him: Compassion, Courage and Change.

`

The six mounds in the foreground represent the six Dolomite Mountain peaks for which he held the speed record when he became a bishop in 1958. A powerful respiratory system and extraordinary strength would enable him to set his last speed record in his class conquering one of the Italian Alps most difficult peaks just five months before his death.
